Bryant honed his trial skills as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia, and he has been at home in the courtroom ever since. As a federal prosecutor, he successfully tried a wide variety of criminal cases to verdict, including a six-week trial culminating in the conviction of banking officials responsible for a half-billion-dollar bank failure.
Since Bryant returned to private practice in 2002, some of the country's largest manufacturers and financial institutions have entrusted him with the defense of their most challenging cases. For the last several years, Mr. Spann has served on a national trial team for a large manufacturer of industrial and consumer products in connection with its defense of mask, respirator, and asbestos cases. In this role, he has appeared in cases pending from Maryland to Hawaii. In cases involving life-threatening or fatal lung diseases, Bryant has secured defense verdicts for respirator manufacturers in Mississippi and Eastern Kentucky. In addition, Bryant frequently defends major lenders in West Virginia litigation involving consumer debt collection and mortgage lending. He also maintains a federal criminal defense practice, representing corporate and individual defendants in financial fraud, taxation, public corruption, and other serious matters.
Bryant has been ranked individually by Chambers & Partners since 2007, and he is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel and The Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference. He maintains a special focus on legal writing and frequently lectures at evidence and trial practice seminars.

Bryant served as a faculty member for the 2017 IADC Trial Academy.
